soooo tired.... I have done so much painting in the last few days, I don't think I will ever want to paint again. Now we still have to move in.

This post is stolen from Becky's Website.

I am covered in paint. Covered!

But I've got some pretty terrific friends -- muchos gracias to Jordon & Wendy for letting me borrow painting supplies. And kudos kudos to Brennan, Bob, and John for coming out to help paint. You guys rawk!

This is so much work, but it's also so much fun. There's nothing like jamming out to tunes, painting with friends, and talking and laughing -- over and over again.

I'm collecting quotes from the experience:

[Becky] (as I'm huffing to pry off a painted/ancient baseboard): This baseboard is my bitch!!
Brennan (when asked to contribute a quote): I'm just here to paint.
Uyen (behind Marc on a stepstool): I've got this uncontrollable urge to grab Marc's ass.
Marc (in the midst of priming and taping baseboards): Let's just make this a weekend project.

[...] Our house is going to look amazing. I can't wait.

I agree!

Pictured here is the new World Cup of Hockey trophy and its designer.

This brings to mind a small debate I was engaged in last night -- does the Olympics mean anything more to the athletes than any other international competition where they compete against the best in the world? They end up competing against the same athletes in the same events.

A question for all readers to ponder -- In what order do you think an NHL athlete would rank the following competitions: the Stanley Cup, the World Cup, or an Olympic Gold medal? What order would a hockey athlete rank these?

What a great movie. You may remember me talking about this movie back in June. I saw it by myself at the Broadway Theatre and absolutely loved it. Last night I watched it with Marc and Becky and was pleased when they liked it too. It was a nice break after spending all day packing. Man... Where does all that stuff come from? I didn't know I owned so much crap.

I intend on spending the better part of the day dissecting Dogville with Becky. Today is the day we start painting the house we plan on moving into on Sunday. Do you think we can have the entire house painted by Sunday. It will be quite the accomplishment. We have a lot of people helping, but we can always use more help... wink wink... I will be posting before and after photos and perhaps some photos of the process. We are all amateur painters, so if anyone has any advice, please, don't hold back.

I suspect that most readers of this blog won't be able to help me, but I guess it never hurts to ask....

Does anybody know of any place that is showing the World Cup of Hockey exhibition games? I do know that LeafsTV has exclusive broadcasting rights to the exhibition games, and I hear that the station is available on Bell ExpressVu satellites... Apparently, last night's match between Canada and the U.S. was a great one, even though the wrong team won. I've missed hockey since the spring and there may not be hockey for a while, with the CBA ending in September and all...

Oprah is very addicting. Everyday that I watch the show, I always see the commercials for the next days shows. Almost every time I see these commercials it makes me want to see the next show too. It is an endless cycle. Today, she is talking about Oprah's most romantic man search. It has put me in a romantic and gushy mood. Great, now I am going to be moonstruck for the rest of this rainy day.

The weekend was really great. I spent it at the lake with My Dad and Marc. It was so quiet and relaxing. I love going to the lake. It is so easy to forget all the responsibilities in the city and just put your feet up. Now that I am back there is so much to do. We have a house to paint this week and hopefully we will be able to move in by the weekend. Today I plan on getting some serious packing done and I would like to make some homemade chicken soup. I picked some fresh dill when I was at the cabin this weekend and I want to use it while it is still fresh. I also picked rhubarb, so I may try making a rhubarb crisp as well. Marc's Mom and Sister are coming to help us move this weekend, maybe I can leave the soup for a couple days and they can get in on the delicious goodness too (yeah, I am still brown nosing a bit).

What is an ecological footprint: Ecological Footprints document a given population's consumption and waste production expressed in biologically productive land and ocean areas necessary to maintain these services. By aggregating data on the consumption of various resources and on the ability of the earth to provide them, the Ecological Footprint accounts provide a means to compare various components of consumption and ultimately serve as an indicator of sustainability - or, in the case of deficits, of unsustainability

Here is my ecological footprint:

CATEGORY GLOBAL HECTARES
FOOD 2.2
MOBILITY 0.5
SHELTER 0.4
GOODS/SERVICES 0.9
TOTAL FOOTPRINT 4

IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 8.8 GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.

WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 1.8 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 2.2 PLANETS.

Last night Marc and I rented a couple of movies. As you can see, we rented 50 First Dates and Eurotrip. When you rent a movie like Eurotrip, your expectations are not high. Considering that, I thought it was good. Good for a funny, teen movie with lots of naked scenes. However, 50 First Dates was a surprise. I wasn't really expecting much from this movie. I really liked it. Maybe I am in a sappy mood, but my eyes even got a little teary-eyed. I would recommend 50 First Dates. I found it cute and entertaining.

Yesterday I was cleaning out my filing cabinet in preparation to moving and I found a letter an old friend sent me about five years ago. Don't you just love going through old love letters. It is so uplifting and such a confidence booster. Well, I know it is five years later and the guy that wrote the letter is now married and living in New Zealand, but I decided to reply to this letter. It is so nice to get a letter in the mail that is not a bill or something of that nature. I remember the feeling I got when I received the letter so I wanted to return the favour and perhaps brighten his day. I didn't sent a love letter of course as he is married and I am currently in a wonderful relationship. I just sent a little update on my life. It was a good opportunity to relive the past four years of my life and an exercise I would recommend.

Okay, enough slacking. Holidays are over, it is time to go back to school more full time. That is my resolution as of today. I want to get my motivation back because if I don't, this next year will be hell. The alternative is to quit. Quit and get a job as a technician until next summer when I go to photography school. Isn't that a good idea. I will make more money which I can save and use to pay for photography school. The second option is soooo tempting. What do you all think? Such a dilemma.

I now have another store on my list to boycott. The store that started this list is Canadian Tire. I had a horrible experience when I took my car there a few years ago and now I refuse to shop there at all. Any of you that know me well, know that I encourage my friends to avoid that store as well. The second store to make it to my list is Future shop. I have had many unpleasant shopping experiences there, but this weekend topped them all. Marc and I went to future shop on Saturday to look at the price of televisions and because a good friend of mine works in the home entertainment department I thought it would be a good place to go. Well, I have to apologize to my friend because we will not be shopping there ever again now, despite the opportunity to give the commission to someone I know so well.

I don't know if I want to get into the details of what happened because I will likely get upset and I don't feel like being upset right now. I will tell you that it was all due to a lady a customer service. Yes, customer service, the department trained in serving the costumer. She was not just rude, but she was an utter BITCH. I am not a person that looks for confrontation and I was almost in tears. Are costumer service personnel supposed to bring costumers to tears??? Marc said he was very proud of how I handled the situation, but I hate the fact that I let it bother me so much. She does not deserve the effect she had on my entire day, not to mention the buying power of my entire life.

Oh well, chalk this one up to experience and NEVER shop there again. I think this is a big loss for future shop as a couple months ago I bought my camera there (~$1300) and in the last few years I have made several other large purchases at future shop. Oh well, this new resolution goes well with my other recent resolution to support local businesses more. I shouldn't have even gone into future shop in the first place. Lesson learnt, and now I encourage none of you to shop at future shop or canadian tire. Be good and support local businesses.

What a good weekend. It was filled with both ups and downs, thankfully it had more ups then downs. We never ended up going to Nipawin which was the original plan. Saturday we found a great house to move into. A friend of mine just bought a rental property and we will be renting it. She has let us pick out all of our own paint and we will all be pitching in with all the work over the next two weeks. It is going to be a lot of work, but it will look so great after we are finished. We spent all of Sunday morning at Home Depot picking out colours. I will definitely be posting before and after pictures. If any of you, my readers, have painting equipment we could borrow I would really appreciate it. We need rollers and paintbrushes and all kinds of stuff like that. The more we can borrow, the more people can work at the same time, the less time it will take, the less they have to buy and the more money they save. I am very excited to get all the work started. This afternoon I am going to the public library to see what books they have on interior design. This house is going to be so great I am going to have a hard time leaving it next summer.

So, I went out and splurged on a new TV and stand today. Before today, we weren't going to have a TV at our place, when we move in September. I think I got a good deal on the TV, but now I'm regretting the purchase of the stand. I haven't even picked it up from the store yet, but I don't think I'll be able to get my money back, as the receipt states oh-too-clearly, "Sorry, no refunds." Hopefully, since I haven't even taken it out of the store, maybe they'll be compassionate and refund that money, but they also sell entertainment units, so I may be able to exchange for something bigger that will hold everything: TV, DVD player, VCR, PS2, SaskTel Max receiver.

Oh yeah, and I've continued on in my quest to support local businesses as much as possible (whenever convenient, of course...). I bought all of this from the only locally-owned electronics business in Saskatoon that I'm aware of, Kiley's Electronics.

I also am slightly ashamed that I went against my own personal vow when I opted to purchase the extended warranty on my new TV. I somewhat justified it when he gave me a $10 discount on the warranty. I never knew peace-of-mind was so expensive...

Last night Becky, Marc and myself went to Lydia's Pub to a concert. We saw Po Girl, personally I thought they were great. Very talented women and wonderful music.

"Vagabond lullabies, hobo-poetry, inner-city blues. These urban minstrels pen harmony drenched melodies to warm your toes. Guitar, banjo, fiddle, clarinet, and harmonica create sultry and rustic ambience both nostalgic and contemporary.
Take the bellow of the blues, the wail of a gypsy fiddle, punk-rock street poetry, a cajun love song, and depression-era jazz, mix it all up and add some old R&B. The sound of Po' Girl is elusive yet rich with musical references. It's all in there."

The two opening bands were very good as well. The whole evening was very exciting. It is too bad we had to leave early, but Marc was falling asleep in his seat. I guess he just can't handle those late nights on weekdays. Hopefully he is more lively tonight. I have a funny feeling he will be as it is his staff summer party and if this party is a repeat performance of the April end tax party, it will be very entertaining. For those of you that don't remember that, Marc stripped down to his underwear and proceeded to climb a pole in order to get our team the most points for being outrageous. And we had only been dating for a month or so by then, what was I thinking. There must be something else that is great about him, because I am still with him. This weekend we are staying in a resort in Nipawin. A family member of mine won a free nights stay and green fees at this place and they couldn't use them. So, they gave them to me. It should be really nice, although I never really pictured Nipawin to be a big holiday location.

The trip to little bear lake was great. Nice and relaxing. Too bad the weather was pretty shitty. Oh well, we didn't go to the beach, but we did get lots of berry picking done. We picked a lot of blueberries and some raspberries and strawberries as well. If anyone knows some great recipes, let me know. I have posted some of the pictures here.

Last night was Jeff's 30th Birthday Party. It was great, I met so many wonderful people and the food was equally wonderful. I actually went as Becky's date so I didn't really know anyone there except her and Jeff. Everyone was so friendly and the weather was perfect for sitting in the backyard chatting it up. I know I said it already at the party, but... Happy Birthday Jeff. Thanks to you and your family for welcoming me and I hope you had a great birthday evening (even though it was a couple days late).

Today I am off to the Lake, Little Bear Lake to be more exact. I will be there until Tuesday. I am dragging Becky along for a girls weekend with my family. I am leaving the posting up to Marc until I get back. Have a great weekend.

The search for a house to rent continues. I wish I didn't have to do it. I just want to pack and move and unpack. I hate the search for the house. Every time I sit at the computer to start looking for places I feel the tension and anger creep into my head and shoulders. I start to get frustrated and angry and now the crazy idea of just buying my own house to fix up and sell has crept into my mind. How crazy is that. Well, the more I think about, the less crazy it seems. I can't actually buy a house by myself, but I can do it with Marc. Woo, what a crazy idea. I brought up this idea with my Mom and Sister today. They were full of advice and information about morgages and such. It is so doable, but so crazy and we have already given notice for the end of the month, so I don't have a lot of time. Such crazy thoughts flying around in my head, when all I should be doing is finding a place to rent. I just wish someone else would find me a place and just let me know, but I guess that is not what being an adult is all about.

Geek, written and performed by Catherine Harrison from Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, was great fun. Last night I saw the performance at The Saskatoon Fringe Festival. It is a one person show where Catherine goes through her life as a geek, through different stages of geekdom and the different influences on her geekness. It was hilarious and it has wide appeal. I think anyone can relate to some or all of this performance, I know I did. I definitely recommend this show for anyone wanting to check out some of the performances this week.

The second show I saw last night was Liminal;

"He buys coffee. She steams milk. A moment occurs... What if you could step inside that moment? What if you could walk around in it, talk, laugh? What if you could make love in that moment?

This performance has a profound message. It explored moments, moments that may change the course of your life. What if it were possible to stop in that moment and explore it. Becky and Marc both considered this show to be their favorites of the ones seen so far. I think it is an intense performance. I loved the message, but I think it has a more narrow appeal then something like Geek. Because Marc enjoyed this performance so much, I am going to stop my review here and encourage him to write his. You can also check out Becky's review here.

Last night Becky and I made a great fruit salad. What else would you think this picture was supposed to illustrate? ;) It is our version of the new McDonald's commercials featuring the salads. Did you know the commercial was for salads the first time you saw it? I thought it was T-shirts.

Last night I went to see Pinocchio by Screwed & Clued at The Saskatoon Fringe Festival. I have seen a lot of movies lately, all in the movie theater. It was a really nice change to see live theater. Tonight I hope to see a couple more shows including One Man Lord of the Rings written and performed by Charles Ross and maybe Geek performed by Catherine Harrison.

I am getting excited to move. I keep dreaming about packing and unpacking all my stuff. I think I am a little crazy, maybe I have been in the same place for too long. The part about moving that I do not like, is finding the house. Phone call after phone call, driving by address after address. I just wish someone else would find my dream house and just let me move in. That would be perfect, too bad it doesn't work that way.

I have seen a few great houses, but it seems we are competing with many other people right now. Houses are going fast. I have been calling new adds in the classifieds only to find out that several people have already been calling and I am usually having to book appointments to view the houses around several different potential renters. It is not very encouraging. I should've known better to try and look for a place for September. University is starting again soon and many students are moving back into the city. I think the population of Saskatoon increases about 50,000 around this time of year. If anyone knows are a great place, please let me know, and put in a good word for me with the landlords.
